we have 2 very sweet purebred tervuren female puppies available as of today...they are six weeks old....if you have been waiting for a puppy please contact us again at doreendelrio@brinkster.net
As this page is starting to get long now, I don't want to retire it or erase it so I'm going to try to shift it into a situation where its called Home Page Part Two.......as I am ever so dull about computers it will take a considerable stroke of luck and Divine Guidance for that to happen successfully...so be patient with the rainfall of technical disturbances that are likely to begin occurring here over the next weeks......
In the meantime I here reprint the FAQ section to a new position right here so I can free up the page formerly known as FAQ so it can become Home Page Part One and ....well.....you see what I mean......
FAQ
well I have a puppy for you if you are ready....my only interest is finding homes that offer good care and I find that good care is related to kindheartedness and openness in the personality of the owner...
I can't tell you what to do but in my opinion and the way I treat my dogs is that I am not fond of dog food especially kibble....I view it as a hodgepodge of chemicals and chicken fat poured over parched corn and whose main attribute is that it is designed not to go sour in a bag for more than 1 year...the people that make it have no real concern about cancer...they are concerned that it not spoil in the bag hence all the preservatives...all the rest is just TV hype and salemanship..... I believe it contributes to dog cancer .....my dogs are fed human grade meat, usually fresh roasted chicken and turkey but actually whatever is on sale at a good price in the market, fresh ten pound bags of chicken here sells for $0.49 to 0.69 per pound while kibble sells for around 0.62 per pound, but I have fed and continue to feed them roast beef and roast pork, cheese, good quality beef sausage and whatever it looks like they might enjoy...they are very efficient eaters and eat bones and all so there is never any waste...in addition I mix the cooking roast drippings with cooked rice, macaroni, and fresh collards and cook it up for half an hour and season to taste and they like that also, nothing is ever wasted .....They also very much enjoy outdated pastries from the bakery like marked down outdated donuts and cheesecakes and danishes....hope the AKC doesn't find out about this part....
the other thing I do is that I don't spay and neuter my dogs, I believe it alters the tervuren personailty and I like the dogs to be in their normal state anyway thats what I do .....all street strays and mixes should be seriously considered for sterilization, but these purebred tervurens are too valuable....you are doing the right thing to get another puppy promptly...tervs are especially endearing dogs and in my eyes they are what the archetypal normal dog should be.
Hello Mr. G......
thank you for your message and charming photos....I believe we can find a puppy for you....this present litter has only 5 puppies and I believe we will be having another litter in a few months time......once a good home is identified the puppies go on a first come first served basis except for returning miltary and combat veterans who receive a preference and bump others off the list....a preference is also possible for people who have certain kinds of disabilities, certain law enforcement and search and rescue requests, and also to tervuren breeders who are having trouble expanding their genetic base..
...interest in the present litter has been fairly strong but in spite of that nobody has yet seen fit to donate to the Salvation Army and therefore their interest has not been taken very seriously so far....a donation to the Salvation Army does not guarantee you a puppy but it certainly helps whereas a failure to donate to the Salvation Army disqualifies for a puppy....
to receive a puppy
1) donation $40 to Salvation Army with copy of receipt to me by email please
2) when the time comes, pick up the puppy in person here as I don't ship puppies
3) your word and promise that you will always feed only good wholesome home cooked meat foods and avoid kibbles
4) that if the puppy displeases you or plans change over time that the puppy will be returned to me and not dropped off at a shelter
5) I also discourage people from spay/neuter unless there is a very overwhelming reason because a neutered tervuren lacks correct personality and appearance in much the same way that a kibble fed tervuren also ceases to look and act like a healthy gorgeous vigorous tervuren over time
There is no charge for the puppy. I try to give the sex of puppy people have asked for but cannot guarantee it. Hope this has answered some of your questions. The puppies from this litter will be assigned beginning at 7 weeks of age.
Hello Mrs. K.....
we have no application potocols or forms and we do not charge money for our puppies.......its probably better for your friend to contact me directly by email so I can get some idea of his situation........anything he can say and do to reassure me that he has a kind heart and can provide a good home for a Tervuren will be very helpful
Tag Anslar de Castries ..... ....these three fellows are Karakachan livestock guardian dogs and they do very nice work.....we have had no losses to predation since they have been with us......

You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam. It's November 11, 1967. LZ (landing zone) X-ray.
Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in.
You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.
Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter. You look up to see a Huey coming in. But.. It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it.
Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you. He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway. Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety.
And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm. He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey. Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise, Idaho
May God Bless and Rest His Soul. I bet you didn't hear about this hero'spassing, but we've sure seen a whole bunchabout Lindsay Lohan, Tiger Woods and the bickering of congress over Health Reform. Medal of Honor Winner Captain Ed Freeman Shame on the American media !!!

Drusus Del Rio nearly 7 months old ...a very handsome young juvenile Tervuren
... I have attached new pictures of Drusus the Brave. He is an amazing dog and a much loved member of our clan. He is progressing in obedience very quickly and is learning his German commands well. On his “Sit” command, he has added his own style by putting both paws in your hand as if high fiving. He eats EVERYTHING and gets his grilled beef neck bone treats every week. I also supplement vitamins and salmon oil in his food for healthy skin and coat. He also gets regular baths and brushing 2 times a week. As you can see, after he lost his puppy hair a beautiful coat of black grew under his neck and his body coat is a rich “Honey Beer” color. He is already very protective of his house and yard and lets me know who is around. His favorite things are pulling weeds in the garden and his weekly trips to Lowes. He follows me everywhere and sits at the door when I leave, waiting for me to come home. My 4 year old and he are inseparable, and when she is outside playing on her play ground, he stays close.
..... Please give Ernie a big kiss on his nose.....

2 week old puppies napping.....these are 3 puppies from Ghostkiller Del Rio, there are 2 boys on the left and a girl on the right..........in about 6 more weeks they will be ready to go home....there are 5 in this litter
lion-like, its the noble Emmett Del Rio
.....The 1st picture was right before he jumped like 6ft straight up in the air . I had no idea he could jump so high.
The 2nd picture , if he could talk he would say "Ok Mom , what do you want me to do with this thing ? "
He is so enjoyable ! So much personality !
here we see the resourceful Kim Del Rio taking this senior citizen out for a walk....
Gryphon Del Rio 9 months old ....these fellas don't come any more Fab than this guy !!
"...Gryphon is proving to be a fantastically brave and hyper young dog. There was an incident a few nights ago where we were taking a walk before bedtime and a man pretty much just popped out of the bushes with a golfclub in hand. We both scared the bejeezus out of each other, and before I'd even fully registered the situation, Gryphon was standing in front of me and giving the man more threatening a growl than I thought he'd be capable of producing. In hindsight, I'm very proud of him; he didn't advance toward the man, but he definitely let him know that he'd have his hands full if he tried anything. It turned out that the man was just on his way from some sort of "golf party" at a friend's house, so I had nothing to worry about, but he commended me on Gryphon's quick response to a potentially dangerous situation. Anyway, I just thought I'd share some more pictures with you... these were taken during playtime this morning. In the first he's staring at some crows that were raiding a nearby pecan tree. I think he may have been a bit jealous, because he has a real fondness for nuts, though walnuts are his favorites. Well, except for lean ground meat cooked up with some beans and squash; that's his real favorite. In the second he's watching the neighbor's 3 month-old mini schnauzer. He's so tiny, Gryphon can't decide whether he's a squeaky toy or a playmate. In the next photo he's waiting for me to chase him to try and get the rope. It wears me out, but our games of tag are a lot of fun for both of us. In the last picture, he's staring at my hand...he totally knew that I was trying to hide a treat (beef jerky). He's becoming very handsome. One of my friends even asked him to be her homecoming date because, and I quote, "He's so tall and attractive! He's like the male model of the doggy world!" I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures; all I ever have on hand is my cell phone...."
Gryphon Del Rio (originally called Babe Del Rio).....just look at this guy!!!

Drusus Del Rio age 4 months...Drusus Del Rio says Don't Drink And Drive, Obey The Law, Be Courteous and Honest...and Only Feed Your Tervuren Quality Fresh Cooked Meat.
What can I say about him? He has doubled his size, courage and bravery. He LOVES to climb. I put rewards up in my daughter’s fort and he climbs the ladder to get to them. I found out that the reason why he lost his hair around his nose is because he went through a growth spurt. All of his hair is back and he is starting to look like a true Terv. He is very protective of his house and is always looking out of the window. His bark is not often, but convincing already. He is extremely healthy, happy and loved. Thank you again...

These are primarily working dogs and resemble Newfoundland dogs in many ways. They can be loveable burley family guardians also if socialized early. . ...but to keep us all going until more puppies arrive we have we have to travel for while with these here folks -

Lucius Del Rio age 6 months......here is the very outstanding Tervuren Lucius Del Rio, posture comfortably square, ears well past vertical, bold escutcheon, and even now his neck and topline show the beginnings of a shaggy heavy outercoat and mane....Lucius Del Rio lives in Miami with Michel
Lucius Del Rio, still very much a puppy but already shining with promise and prospects
Ernie Del Rio continues to recover....still splinting his leg against his chest and completely non-weightbearing but his spirits are good and off in the distance we can spy a hopefully full recovery heading our way...
Hey there! I just wanted to tell you what a wonderful dog Koda (formally Buster on the website) has become and how he is doing and what a great addition to the family he has been. I am sending some pics to show you how big he has gotten. In the pics with him are his sister Zoe a blue heeler and the neighbors Great Dane. They play through the fence with her. Thank you so much for such a wonderful dog and family member. Take care and I hope Ernie is doing better. Kirk Koda and Zoe
Buster Del Rio, age 6 months, surnamed Koda.......Buster Del Rio might be considered to be a marksman type of Tervuren because next year at this time he will be able to break the hearts of all strangers within a 35 yard range just by aiming a glance at them...

Heather Del Rio had her puppies yesterday - excellent purebred tervurens by Ernie Del Rio. If one of these puppies is yours and you have not yet donated to the Salvation Army website $40 you risk losing your spot so take a moment and check out the Salvation Army and please send copy of your receipt to me. In addition we are expecting another litter in about 3 weeks.
Todays litter will be ready to go home about mid July.
Mandie sends in this photo of her puppy the noble Emmett Del Rio now 2 years of age ........... ...Just like his father Ernie Del Rio, Emmett shows the typical Tervuren resting posture - bolt upright at attention on all 4's....most dogs will rest 3/4 slumped onto one side with legs splayed away...as a result it takes three motions to rise and move forward....the Tervuren is up and at a full gallop in a single motion ........when you have Emmett Del Rio on your side you are always on the winning team...
My beloved Ernie Del Rio was shot 3 weeks ago. Every twilight in this backwoods Big Bend Florida panhandle county about 12 miles south of Quincy we hear gunfire sometime during the day, heavy caliber high power semi-automatic fire typically, booming through the deep woods and anywhere from a halfmile to 4 miles off...we all of us give a little shiver and hope no stray bullet comes screaming out of the woods and hits one of us. Ernie was off the property one morning and he was hit in the left leg in the mid shaft of the femur and it was clipped fairly cleanly in half with a 2 inch fleshy skin defect and a flail limb. He came home in bad shape crying and bleeding. I looked him over and made up a special firm but padded bed for him on the floor next to me, put some antiseptic on the wound, gave him a superlarge dose of ibuprofen and followed it up with a full bottle of Guiness thick heavy black stout beer in a bowl for him and put him to bed. He was still whimpering until I played some of his favorite music whereupon he fell asleep and slept for almost 36 hours. The music made him feel better because anything is better than being a blackleg miner, including being shot. Next time I get shot I'm going to treat my own self exactly the way I treated Ernie because we both have the same amount of health insurance (none.) Ernie is recovering with a straight leg and if nothing else happens he should be good as new.....If you want to hear the music that has saved Ernie's bacon and my own too many times to count then just click on the this link below

She said she wants to be the new accountant and CEO at the ranch here, said she thinks I'm a lousey businessman...kinda hurt my feelings a little there....said she prefers if I don't hang around the front office any more because she brought her own executive assistant and besides there must be something useful I can find to do....

Really he naturally stands very correctly at all times, all 4 feet pointed forward, and he is very athletic. He would be an agility superstar if his owner had any tendencies in that direction. He's a clingon, and will walk next to me in the house with his face touching my hand. I get comments like, "Remember, that's the dog i was telling you about that's so beautiful." This is the adoreable Gisele Del Rio at age 9 weeks now at home with Michelle and Tony........... Michelle tells me that little sweet Gisele Del Rio doesn't have much sympathy for deceivers, hangashores, highwaymen, and whiskey-drinkers...but I promised I would keep an empty chair ready for her at Clancey's in case she ever wants to come in and warm herself before the fire some cold winter night. We can all be a light for each other in the darkness.......and so we have included here below for Gisele a joyful warm song about those who seem to be but aren't and who want to be but can't...
Whiskey In The Jar..........an Irish Tervuren ballad
As I was a goin' over the far famed Kerry mountains I met with captain Farrell and his money he was counting I first produced my pistol and I then produced my rapier Saying "Stand and deliver" for he were a bold deceiver
Chorus: Mush-a ring dum-a do dum-a da Whack for my daddy-o. Whack for my daddy-o There's whiskey in the jar
I counted out his money and it made a pretty penny I put it in me pocket and I took it home to Jenny She sighed and she swore that she never would deceive me But the devil take the women for they never can be easy
(Chorus)
I went up to my chamber, all for to take a slumber I dreamt of gold and jewels and for sure 't was no wonder But Jenny drew me charges and she filled them up with water Then sent for captain Farrell to be ready for the slaughter
(Chorus)
't was early in the morning, just before I rose to travel Up comes a band of footmen and likewise captain Farrell I first produced me pistol for she stole away me rapier I couldn't shoot the water, so a prisoner I was taken
(Chorus)
Now there's some take delight in the carriages a rolling and others take delight in the hurling and the bowling but I take delight in the juice of the barley and courting pretty fair maids in the morning bright and early
(Chorus)
If anyone can aid me 't is my brother in the army If I can find his station in Cork or in Killarney And if he'll go with me, we'll go rovin' through Killkenny And I'm sure he'll treat me better than my own a-sporting Jenny
(Chorus)

So far I haven't been able to find any polishing booties that fit them yet.....but they try to keep in practise every day
Tag Anslar Urkman... livestock guardian dog on patrol
here is the dog trainer in the process of delivering a training session on discipline....normally the Urkman is all ears for this training
here is the completion of the first part of the lesson. In the more advanced session the trainer is often seen lying on the ground with three dogs standing on him...this valuable training demonstrates to the dogs that they can see a bit further when propped up a few inches, while at the same time getting them accustomed to wheezing znd groans if they should encounter that while defending the master and the flock...we give the Urkman considerable leeway as he was nearly killed 3 weeks ago in defending the goats. In the photo he has lost 2/3 of his right ear and his skin on the foreshoulder is a dinner plate sized mass of cuts and tears now crusted over. We thought old Urkman was a goner for a while. But we got lucky. Theres nothing wrong with the Urkman's discipline when the chips are on the table.
Tag Anslar Leopold....livestock guardian dog
the Ghostkiller
Ghostkiller Del Rio is an unusually beautiful dog...she is a female 14 months old and is neither true Draculoidian nor highly Mummyformulaic, but a pleasing mixture of both, with highly pleasing mostly Karloffian gargoylisms and an astonishing white waffenesque lightning flash on her chest. Temperamentally she is as soft and gentle as ever there was. Here she is smiling (almost laughing in fact) for the camera.

Max Del Rio
magnificent Max Del Rio
Max Del Rio age 13 months
The Butcher Boy
In London city where I did dwell Lived a butcher boy, I loved right well He courted me, my life away And now with me, he will not stay
I wish, I wish, I wish in vain I wish I was a maid again But a maid again I ne'er will be 'Till cherries grow on an apple tree
I wish my baby he was born And smiling on his daddy's knee And me poor girl to be dead and gone With the long green grass growing over me
She went upstairs to go to bed And calling to her mother said "Give me a chair 'till I sit down And a pen and paper while I write down"
At every word she shed a tear At every line cried "Willie dear - Oh, what a foolish girl was I To fall in love with a butcher boy"
He went upstairs and the door he broke He found her hanging from a rope He took his knife and he cut her down And in her pocket, these words he found
Oh, dig my grave large, wide and deep Put a marble stone at my head and feet And in the middle, a turtle dove So the world will know I died for love

recent of Mojo Del Rio, an extremely beautiful and charming puppy........and a letter from Diana ......................Hi!...Remember when Mojo was a puppy and I was very concerned about how fearful he was? Well, you told me he would calm down after a year or two and he really has.
He'll be 2 in a couple of weeks and is fine now. He loves kids and is the most affectionate dog i have ever had, a big lovebug. He has never been hit or hurt in his life. Although he is tall enough at 25" to eat off the table or out of the trash can or counter surf, he doesn't. The only time he gets in trouble is for being too rambunctious- (being a belgian he can leap straight into the air to amazing heights and go 50mph frontwards or backwards) and all my husband or I do is say a word and he will "grin and tremble". Silliest thing you ever saw, and we can't keep a straight face. He sits and skins back his lips, shakes his whole body and will sort of gnash his teeth. It's completely non-threatening (teeth and all) and hard to describe. Anyway, he's a real character as well as being incredibly beautiful and I'm very happy with him. Everyone he meets loves him. Even my SIL who is afraid of dogs.

I have some splendid purebred classic Tervuren puppies now 5 weeks of age available shortly to kindhearted homes...if you need one please email me....and as always the puppies are free of charge, there needs to be a $40 donation made to the Salvation Army at their internet site per puppy (I have no connection with the Salvation Army as such) In addition I need a plainly stated promise that these puppies will be fed an enhanced diet lifelong of normal human grade food like chicken parts/turkey/ beefhearts or kidneys, etc., and suchlike on a daily basis because, like us, they place the greatest importance on their daily food, and to refrain from spay/neuter unless there is an overwhelming reason to do so...if you neuter your tervuren you are going to lose some essentialness for the breed. They won't die of course but they won't be quite a Tervuren either. I don't ship puppies so you will have to appear here in person to pick up your puppy, we are located 30 miles west of Tallahassee FL, a few miles off I-10 interstate. our email doreendelrio@brinkster.net
I'm going to try to add some of their new photos before the weekend is out.

Jagr Del Rio age 8 months .... sometimes the workday is long, and there are many lessons to learn, and many chores to work at, and many miles to run before dark.......if the wind blows cold and the chill rains drive through the flesh and the muscles are sore from striving.....a puppy can become tired, maybe even a little discouraged..........what can be done?
well then...Jagr - how you feel about an evening together with us by the warm fireplace at Clancey's Public House? Are you up for it? Do you want to come? Well lets all go together then, c'mon......
here we all are at our favorite pub Clancey's, doing what we like to do best - singing Irish traditional battle ballads. Nicholas Incognitus and Jagr are here singing a rousing chorus of the revered song "Whiskey In The Jar" that we all first heard sung by Ryan's Fancy on a foggy blustery evening in Old St. John's, Newfoundland, with the wind and the rain and the sea all contending dangerously with each other as to which was the coldest. We have to be careful with Jagr as he is quite sentimental and if he has more than two he begins to sing the fourth verse of "The Butcher Boy" over and over again and he becomes inconsolable....One of Jagr Del Rio's favorite ballads is Spancil Hill and for him we have placed it here...................Spancil Hill
Spancil Hill
Last night as I lay dreaming, of the pleasant days gone by, My mind being bent on rambling and to Erin's Isle I did fly. I stepped on board a vision and sailed out with a will, 'Till I gladly came to anchor at the Cross of Spancil Hill.
Enchanted by the novelty, delighted with the scenes, Where in my early childhood, I often times have been. I thought I heard a murmur, I think I hear it still, 'Tis that little stream of water at the Cross of Spancil Hill.
And to amuse my fancy, I lay upon the ground, Where all my school companions, in crowds assembled 'round. Some have grown to manhood, while more their graves did fill, Oh I thought we were all young again, at the Cross of Spancil Hill.
It being on a Sabbath morning, I thought I heard a bell, O'er hills and vallies sounded, in notes that seemed to tell, That Father Dan was coming, his duty to fulfill, At the parish church of Clooney, just one mile from Spancil Hill.
And when our duty did commence, we all knelt down in prayer, In hopes for to be ready, to climb the Golden Stair. And when back home returning, we danced with right good will, To Martin Moilens music, at the Cross of Spancil Hill.
It being on the twenty third of June, the day before the fair, Sure Erin's sons and daughters, they all assembled there. The young, the old, the stout and the bold, they came to sport and kill, What a curious combination, at the Fair of Spancil Hill.
I went into my old home, as every stone can tell, The old boreen was just the same, and the apple tree over the well, I miss my sister Ellen, my brothers Pat and Bill, Sure I only met my strange faces at my home in Spancil Hill.
I called to see my neighbours, to hear what they might say, The old were getting feeble, and the young ones turning grey. I met with tailor Quigley, he's as brave as ever still, Sure he always made my breeches when I lived in Spancil Hill.
I paid a flying visit, to my first and only love, She's as pure as any lilly, and as gentle as a dove. She threw her arms around me, saying Mike I love you still, She is Mack the Rangers daughter, the Pride of Spancil Hill.
I thought I stooped to kiss her, as I did in days of yore, Says she Mike you're only joking, as you often were before, The cock crew on the roost again, he crew both loud and shrill, And I awoke in California, far far from Spancil Hill.
But when my vision faded, the tears came in my eyes, In hope to see that dear old spot, some day before I die. May the Joyous King of Angels, His Choicest Blessings spill, On that Glorious spot of Nature, the Cross of Spancil Hill.

Max Del Rio and a letter from Sarge............................................. "Max adventure on the Apple canyon River, this dog actually can talk and understand me prefect, everyone in Chicago see him , he must stop and see him and kiss or give him hugs, Max finish his school on top of his class, and he just register to start advance training, his teacher said this dog is by far the smarts dog she ever train in her career, above that he is the most gentle guy too, Max no walk without leash and I am so proud of him, he don’t go above the 4 feet far from, me and stop and set in every stop sign, and ally, and street, and he freeze in his spot when you tell him stop. You gave me the prefect guy and you should be proud of it, I am glad I run to you, please let me know if you need anythings" .................................... ....I mentioned to Sarge that about the only thing we need is some dry weather, if he can work on that it would be good.
Sorry have not written in a long while to let you know of Bob. Bob is doing well, he is my boy. lol Bob will soon be three years old Bill, his weight is 30 kilos. He is very strong, very strong and he is so true to his breed.
About 5 or 6 months ago we were well hassled by a couple of punk kids just trying to be smart. Thinking I would be an easy catch walking with my trusty Bob and my cane, the boys tried to rob me and take Bob. However, after just attempt to hit me and take Bob, Bob jumped the one boy who tried to take the leash from me and the other he just harassed scaring him away with his friend bleeding from the hand.
You know Bill that is the third time since having Bob. When people see him they just go nuts, they love the breed so much. Bob is a handsome guy though so I can understand that.
But anyway Bill just wanted to let you know that Bob is doing ok and so are we Tom and Doris!
Will be posting fotos of Bob on the facebook site, under Tom Anstead.
Your friends from Peru, Tom, Doris and our boy Bob"

........here is Zoltan and Irene and her letter
There he is the mighty Zoltan !!!! Isn't he gorgeous ? Maybe a little bit dark for a Terv, and his nose is not as pointy as many purebred, but I looooove him just the way he is !!!! His coat was much lighter when he was a puppy. He is pretty much deaf and blind now, and he almost never leaves my side, since I am his eyes and his ears. Happy New Year !!!! Irene
My Ernie Del Rio is beginning to look like Zoltan around the edges....But Zoltan and Ernie Del Rio are what this whole thing is all about......when I l.ook at Zoltan and when I'm with my Ernie I feel like I'm home again....

Its no wonder my friend
When stacked end to end
That your figures no longer an hourglass" ....................not exactly sure how Jagr came up with this poem...must have observed Santa taking a break or something...

recent of a smiling Kona Del Rio with her mommy Gwen in New York....a witness tells me that Kona Del Rio was briefly stolen from her mommy while At The Zoo in New York by an extraterrestrial which had the form of a mountebank....Kona dragged the creature down Bleeker Street to a place near the home of a Mrs. Robinson where a passing ex-Boxer by the name of Floyd Scarborough fairly struck the mountebank so hard that a substance resembling guacamole began leaking from its ears...and a good thing it was too, as a mother and child reunion is a happy event..it was all just one more bridge over troubled waters........these Del Rio tervurens seem to find no end of mischief to get themselves into.......

a puppy of incomparable potential.......and boundless loyalty
a puppy who will turn over heaven and earth to be with you...a youngster who by his breeding and nature is incapable of doing harm
seeing what is beyond our own sight.......further and deeper into fidelity and courage
Angus Del Rio in his prime...strong, masculine, bold, moderate in his habits, a powerful and reliable right arm in any situation
Alcibiades Del Rio.....Big Alcibiades is 3 years old and has all the Tervuren virtues as well as a special talent....he is able to leap straight up into the air to the height of a grown man's head, at least 6 feet straight up from a standing start
Del Rio conference of goats....this is their reaction upon being informed that the European Large Hadron Collider has achieved an interim collision energy of 3.7 trillion electron volts in the search for the Higgs Boson at a cost of $24 billion dollars so far...apparently the Higgs Boson consists of a light orange spiral line on a blue background......its apparent that the goats heard and understood the numeral 3....which co-incidentally is exactly the same amount that I myself understood.........I've since been informed that a good many college graduates also additionally understood the numeral 7
Tag Anslar Mikhail......Mikhail is actually the true operator and controller of everything that happens on our little ranch...he is a profoundly capable and reliable livestock guardian dog.....completely trustworthy and independent and with a stout heart better than any lion's, as Mikhail's heart is tempered by good judgement and sound predictability.......he is unlike other dogs...he earns his food and does better work than any 3 good men can do in protecting the herd, without complaint and in all weathers any time day or night..............Mikhail is a Karakachan-Maremma breed
these are the babies of Tag Anslar Mikhail.......they are ..... Tag Anslar Leopold Tag Anslar Farwyn Tag Anslar Softly and Tag Anslar Urkman
here lie the puppies in the nest of a giant eagle fashioned rudely upon the ground from sticks and grasses.......the eagle means to eat Tag Anslar Leopold first, later in the day, and the others in turn later on................unless an enchantment can save them but that is unlikely...........just at the top of the photo Tag Anslar Mikhail can be seen driving away a troll and thus the puppies belong to the merciless eagle unless and until the troll can be dispatched
this blond troll was seen at sunrise 3 days ago, having just captured Tag Anslar Urkman and meaning to eat him for his breakfast...see how the evil troll shows his sharp fangies to frighten the Urkman....its all over for the nearly helpless Urkman I fear......nevertheless the Urkman knows that the troll has very weak eyesight and a very short memory and if he just lies completely warm and quiet and still like a comfy worn-out old wool sock that the troll might forget all about him and just drop him absently to the ground as the troll goes to hide from the daylight under his bridge of damp moldy old logs...

update Feb 12 / 10
two of our tervuren puppies have recently had some difficulties as you will see in the photos below...
Shpilkis Del Rio
Vexatious Del Rio
Shpilkis Del Rio and his sibling Vexatious Del Rio are Tervuren puppies recently born here and adopted by a new owner who was found to be feeding them commercial kibble and bagged dry dog food contrary to the agreement he made with us.....Ernie Del Rio and I rescued these two puppies, but as far as I'm concerned the damage has already been done. See the next photos....
Sad though these puppy photos are, I think they need to be seen.... the changes are subtle and not everyone will notice them but as an experienced tervuren breeder I can tell you that the changes are definitely present.....a certain sparseness and coarseness in the coat, just a tad bit of unsteadiness around the knees, uncharacteristic loss of enthusiasm for galloping and chasing, inordinate thinness and what seems to be a lack of energy, some confusion about general direction, and an almost imperceptible drooping of the ears and lack of that special tervuren intensity around the eyes... a sad situation....
....the fuel you put in is going to go a very long way in determining the happiness and performance you get out.....if you feed a puppy the food meant for goats like parched corn in kibble you are going to get a decrease in performance, health and lifespan.....a well bred Tervuren puppy fed on a kibble diet is going to seem like its only half there and will not reach its full potential..............
love and training are the other 2 foundation stones of a happy tervuren but they rest first upon good rounded wholesome diet of real food consisting mainly of good quality home cooked meat...................

I'm pleased to report that Heather Del Rio has just had her litter of puppies....as is my hands-off custom I interfere with my new litters as little as possible during the first 72 hours, making sure only that everybody is warm and dry and carefully hidden away and has access to food and water, and then I'm gone....Heather Del Rio is in a frame of mind that I have observed with my other female tervs at this tender time and for which only one word comes to mind - ecstasy

.....the following is printed in the newspaper today...
Chanel, a wire-haired dachshund, died at her owners' home in Port Jefferson Station on Long Island, N.Y.
She was just six-weeks-old when Denice and Karl Shaughnessy adopted her from a shelter.
They nominated her for the title of world's oldest dog after noticing the Guinness World Recordsbook was lacking the record.
The pooch was presented with a certificate at a birthday bash earlier this year, which took place a dog hotel and spa in Manhattan, complete with a peanut butter cake made especially for dogs.
"She once ate an entire bag of Reese's peanut butter cups, and, you see, she lived to be 21, so go figure," Denice Shaughnessy said.
But Chanel's owners put her long life down to more than just her daily exercise and home-cookedchicken meals.
"Dogs are God's angels sent here to look out for us," Shaughnessy said.
....I consider this article to be important because the Shaughnessys have summarized in 2 elegant sentences two of the most important truths about dogs (1) that a dog contains a spark of the divine. In the person of their puppy the Shaughnessys discovered an angel in their midst and thereby confirmed the spark of their own participation in the divine. A dog knows no avarice, speaks no lies, is exempt from greed, is infinitely forgiving, never holds a grudge and returns only good for evil. A harsh dog reflects only the man who owned him, not his own nature in almost all cases. and (2) the secret to a happy longlived dog is good proper real food. Commercial dry kibble and canned dog food in all its forms (but kibble in particular) is the worst killer of more beloved dogs than all other causes combined and is one of the least questioned and largest frauds perpetrated on man and dog in living memory. Kibble kills most dogs by the seventh year and often sooner, and makes the intervening six years miserable, causing a host of cancers and degenerative diseases. The best kibbles taste like dampish cardboard and the average kibbles have a sour burned taste. A diet of kibble is the abuse of a loving friend, family member and angel....

update Sep 25/09 I've been asked from time to time why I give my puppies away at no charge....for one reason I don't think most people have $1000 to spend on a first class quality dog, I know for me both parents of this litter cost me a grand total of $2800 all included for excellent quality Tervurens when I got them as puppies but I could afford them because I drive a 20 year old car, I have no wife or children in college or alimony payments or house mortgage payments...those who vist us here see instantly how simply and humbly we live together...the dogs are everything to me...I feed them well, with real food every day, real meat, and we eat well and sleep in an old shed and watch the goats and see the sunrise every day..............another reason is that for me my dogs are my best friends, and I don't sell my friends whether dogs or humans, they aren't a commodity to me or a source of income...I've never accepted money for a dog or puppy..............another reason is when I first got my Tervurens I was humiliated and distressed at the difficult and intrusive and unpleasant narture of the questionnaires and terms and conditions set down by some of the breeders/sellers of these puppies ...I accepted debasement in order to get a Tervuren and I don't want others to have to do the same.................. another reason is that there are about 2500 golden retrievers for every 1 Tervuren in the USA and the Tervuren is such an excellent elegant charming dog that it is a complete mystery to me that there are so few around
I was thinking the other day about how perfect the Tervurens are...not bred to have deformed faces like bulldogs or deformed legs like dachshunds or voiceless like viszlas or hairless like the chinese crested or mutantly scrawny like the chihuahua or corded or wrinkled or bugeyed or lethargic or gigantic or what-have-you....so many dogs are bred to emphasize a deformity or an extreme bizarrerie on a whim of some human.....the Tervuren is the perfect dog, elegant upright beautifully proportioned and easy and graceful of movement...adaptable to many tasks, teachable, usually good natured...a highly dignified dog, a dog's dog you might say....
The golden retiever is like a glass of cold fresh milk on a blustery morning in autumn in an Irish fisherman's cottage at the rocky seaside, with stone ground oatmeal breakfast with brown sugar and a wood fire in the fireplace...some days a glass of cold fresh milk is exactly what you need.....
A Tervuren is like a cup of fresh ground fresh brewed steaming Jamaican Blue mountain brand coffee with a half ounce of Grand Marnier in it, sipped at sunrise from a 40 footer on a Leeward Island cove just before you set out to catch some red snapper and grouper...good every day and any day and always a thrill

Aug 23/09 this week I've been trying mightily to get some fresh nice unposed spontaneous photos of all the dogs and the new puppies but every day something seems to go wrong - either too damp or too much sun dappling or dogs acting camera shy...etc...will keep trying....in the meantime these 2 photos will have to suffice for today -
Heath Del Rio "Yogi" and Barbara Del Rio "Babs".............Yogi has been in excellent form and this photo does not do him justice, but it was all he would sit still for....if we can't get a better photo tomorrow then he will have to be posed
Barbara Del Rio "Babs"....with sand on her beautiful nose........three months ago one of my insane neighbors shot Babs in the right hip, trying to kill her...I never found out which neighbor or why...but Babs was able to find her way home with a terribly shattered hip joint and extreme bullet fragmentation in the area...it cost me $2900 to have the surgeons put the joint back in place with pins and wires and plates...but Babs is going to be OK. She is just very pretty and she is Effie's daughter

July 23/09 lovely Heather has had 9 (NINE!) puppies...photos will follow I am very excited about these puppies as Ernie is the most magnificent dog I have ever seen and Heather is a wonderful dark sturdy loving tervuren......so many puppies, they are all so tiny so we are just going very slowly and carefully...

a perching Tervuren....the very gorgeous Zac Del Rio
Bob Del Rio now age 2 yrs...beautiful dog living in Peru with Tom and Doris and doing service work...here taking a break and doing his Rudolph Valentino impression....an extraordinary doggie in every way
update June 16 ......we are hoping for more puppies before the end of the summer.... very hot weather here but my dogs share an airconditioned doghouse...talk about luxury! from about 11 am to 5 pm I know where to find them, passed out on the dry cool stone tile floor of the cave-like doghouse like scattered cordwood, having doggie dreams and waiting for a cooling rain. Only Mickie, my wonderful Barakachan livestock guardian dog (who somewhat resembles a lumbering grizzly bear) and his Alsatian girlfriend are still working out in the full day's heat but they are usually watching from cool damp depressions in the ground that they can just see out of, like soldiers in a foxhole .... nobler and more faithful creatures there never were....
the goat herd numbering about 40 gets a few new members from occasional births and loses a few to natural death by illness or age now and then and the losers clamber up into the cooking pot to make a last final comforting contribution...all our goats are pets basically, we do not sell or kill for meat....but we might be peruaded to part with a pet or two if you want some happy days with an animated lawnmower and shrub pruner...they are fine animals and wonderful pets for young and old alike. However they are like potato chips - you can't have just one! you really need a bare minimum of 3 and 4 is actually about the right number.

update Dec 22
we have two very fine young adult Tervurens who are available for adoption at no charge. They are gorgeous in appearance, energetic and clever. They would serve very well as companions and guard dogs in almost any environment as long as they have a large fenced area to live in and exercise. They are good natured and have been well-kept, but are surplus to our needs.
puppies - we are expecting a litter of exceptional puppies from Heather Del Rio in January. These purebred tervuren puppies will be free to good homes. We favor law enforcement, search and rescue, the disabled and returning war vets, but anybody needing an exceptionally attractive and loyal puppy may ask, and if you have room for the puppy and a large fenced yard and shelter, we have a puppy for you. We don't have questionnaires or contracts and we don't neuter our puppies as we feel it is not essential for such fine puppies.
update Nov 30 22008
no puppies now. Possibility of puppies early in the new year but not certain. We are just getting ready for winter. The dogs are strong and tough, won't have much problem. The goats are slender and tiny, particularly the toy goats and they are sensisitive to rain and cold weather. They are very vulnerable to cold rain and we are trying to optimize conditions for them. Since we don't sell dogs we have limited income but we manage and the ranch accomodates us all. We want to get into solar power next year, obtain a used motor vehicle for emergencies and continue with shed and shelter building. We have enough wood to meet all our natural energy needs, but you still have to cut it and split it and haul it and organize it. So we aren't petroleum free yet.
The dogs continue on a high quality meat diet mainly. They are content and look very good. They'd all like to run around more and cover 20 miles in a day every day, and we try to accomodate them in an orderly way.
Our new home here is a magical sort of place. Hidden deep in the woods, I expect to find Hansel and Gretel knocking on my door sometime asking for directions to the witch's house. The plants are odd....tomatoes and mushrooms just seem to leap right up out of the ground by the hundreds and into the salad bowl. Two of the most difficult plants to grow nicely anywhere else except here, tomatoes and mushrooms are.... Everything is more concentrated and intense here somehow. The dogs are well. They seem in a good mood. The puppies are eager and explosively energetic like little grenades that go bang with curiosity and vigor 3 or 4 times every day. They are all learning to become livestock guardian dogs and they live now with the goats and not with me. The senior Alsatian mix teacher hovers over them all, goats and puppies alike, voiceless unapproachable and calm but deadly terrible if you ever try to cross swords with her. Like an Archangel in our little heaven here. I am so grateful to be here with my puppies.
This picture is of Sandy and her new puppy Zac Del Rio. Zac Del Rio is destined to become a SAR dog and I envy him his future.
The next picture below is an old photo of Ernie Del Rio, gorgeous gorgeous Ernie, when he was a puppy. Ernie, of course, is the father to both Zac Del Rio and Bob Del Rio who can be seen on this page.
update Sep 22 / 08
we still have 3 male puppies now 12 weeks old, full of beauty, vigor, and curiosity.
Update August 27/08
as usual our puppies are free to law enforcement professionals, SAR personnel, returning combat vets, and the disabled, as long as the puppies will receive formal training with their new owners. All our puppies are 100% purebred Tervurens. We raise no other dogs. We have puppies at various times of the year, we happen to have some now.
To receive a free puppy certain conditions apply (nothing burdensome) and if you are interested we will give you the details.
We are more interested in a good home and good life for our puppies with a good fit to the new owner than we are in money.

...anyway its worth taking a few moments to refresh our information by reviewing what the AKC experts say...
" ...(AKC speaks:) ...We feel the Tervuren is a "special dog". Those of us who own them are completely charmed by their intelligence, trainability, and, perhaps most of all, their sense of humor. They are suited to many kinds of activities. Their herding instinct is still intact. In Belgium, they are trained as police dogs. They are well suited to the precision, discipline and animation required for successful obedience and Schutzhund work. .... our first Obedience Trial Champion was earned within a few months of this title's initiation by the AKC. We are proud of the number of champions that hold one or more obedience title. The first recorded AKC Herding Champion of any breed was earned by a Tervuren. The breed is known for its loyalty and protectiveness. Their appearance projects alertness and elegance.
